Killybegs Ladies GAA – County Final Sat 12th Sep, Four Master GAA Club Donegal Town

Killybegs Ladies GAA – County Final Sat 12th Sep, Four Master GAA Club Donegal Town (Club na gCeithre Maistir)

Killybegs Ladies are set to play Robert Emmet’s in the Senior Ladies B Final on Sat 12th Sep @  6 o clock.

This is the 1st major competition since 93/94  and the ladies are delighted to have reach the final.

Having drawn Malin in the 1st round, the first game seen Killybegs away to Malin, losing  by 8 points,  gave the girls from Killybegs a big task in the return leg, but with a full team on Sun 2nd August the ladies secured their semi-final spot beating Malin by 18 points (11 on aggregate).

Delighted to get over the first round Killybegs were set to meet Urris in the semi – final . However a no show by Urris meant that Killybegs were in their first major final

Disappointed with the outcome of the Semi Final we had to none the less prepare for a Final.

We started our preparations with a friendly against Glenties Ladies, a very good match, which ended in a draw.

A few league games in between helped with our preparation with Killybegs only losing out marginally to our neighbours Glen, but a great game none the less.

2 weeks later we played Ardara in the league and after a very highly contested match seen Killybegs the victors winning by 1 point, a great boost of confidence leading up to the final.

Another boost  to the team saw the return of Catherine White who went to New York for the summer and although she expected games to be finished its great to have her back for the final.  Catherine even took part in the Ardara match coming on in the 2nd half – jet lagged or not !!!

Our team is made up of a great bunch of girls with players coming through from the under 16 girls team, who have played a very important part in this year’s team.

One major setback this year seen veteran Mairead Gallagher injured in one of our 1st game way back in April, but the plus side to the injury is her drive and knowledge on the side line.

A massive thank you to Martin Slua Boyle, Sean Connors and Mairead for all their work and support so far this year.

Thanks to the club and those who have supported our matches and to the ladies who, as always, make the tea after the games. (we even got soup a few very cold sun mornings) - thank you Mary & Patricia

A massive thank you to Henry & the BAYVIEW Hotel who have very generously sponsored the team with Training Tops and T-Shirts for the Final .

Please come out in your numbers and support our ladies on Saturday and hopefully we will bring the CUP home to Killybegs – it’s long overdue!!!!

Best Regards
