Hooked 2016 in Killybegs
24th September 2016, Killybegs
Directed at both adults and kids, this year’s Hooked will take place on Saturday 24th September at LYIT, Killybegs. Our aim is to build on this festival each year and promote Seafood and Killybegs as one, showcasing the town as not only an industrialised town but one of marine tourism and a leader in the seafood sector, with the hope of making it a National Seafood Calendar Event.
We are extremely lucky that it is incorporated with the County Chowder Competition, This competition was won by Kieran from Nancy’s Barn in Ballylifen last year and he went on to win the National Chowder Title, which is run by Martin Shanaghan of Martin’s Mad about fish. This event drew a huge crowd last year and we hope that with that success, it will be bigger and better this year.
We are aware that last year the event was organised in a short space of time and this restricted some businesses from getting more involved. We are hoping that this year, this will not be the case. We have been better able to advertise and promote this event nation -wide and we are hoping for another huge success.
With this in mind we took a look at all areas which were very successful last year and we would like to build on them. Some of those are as follows:
• Entry to Chowder Competition – Run by Local Enterprise Office (Donegal County Council)
• Demonstrations on filleting, v nocthing, net mending etc
• Stand/Stalls for Business promoting products (Food, Crafts, Services or Business Advertising)
• Home baking
• Cookery Demonstrations throughout the day by local chef’s
• For kids Penalty shoot-out, face painting, Mr Magestic, art competitions
• Food tasting’s – Barbecue
• Fish Display’s
• Story Telling, Killybegs Fishing History including photo display’s of times gone by
These are some of the events and displays from last year. This year we hope to build on that and that every business will take part in some way. Each business may decide what they wish to do to take part, e.g. stand, fun event for kids, fish displays, etc. (there’s a way everyone can participate, think of it as a way to showcase the town and your business at the same time).
In order for us to get the event together, we would ask that you could come back to us as soon as possible to let us know if you wish to take part. This needs to be done in order to organise area space at the LYIT for the event and also for promotion for day. This will be done over the coming weeks through meetings.
