The second annual Hooked festival at LYIT Killybegs was a Big Success
Hooked 2016: The second annual Hooked festival at LYIT Killybegs was a big success with more exhibitors and a big increase in the number of visitors throughout the day. Said Killybegs Community Council chair, Eimear McGuinness, "It was a fantastic day from start to finish with plenty to eat and loads to see and do." She added, "
A huge crowd-pleaser on the day was the Donegal Food Coast’s Regional Chowder final which was held and consisted of ten competitors from all over Donegal. Christopher Molloy from the Lemon Tree Restaurant, Letterkenny, was the favourite on the day and went home with the County Title. Christopher will go on to represent Donegal in the All Ireland Final in Kinsale, later in the year." Crowds gathered to watch the fish filleting demo’s, net mending and lobster v-notching, while others enjoyed the fly fishing simulator and BIM training unit which was on site for the day. Children of all ages were entertained with a cinema, face painting, penalty shooting, sweet treats and goody bags.
All local producers showcased their products on the day from Seaweed to Life jackets , local crafters as well as beautiful images from local photographers. DJ Tubsy and Ocean fm made sure everyone was kept entertained on the day. Said Ms McGuinness, "As Chairperson of the Killybegs Community Council, I would like to thank everyone who took part in the Festival, everyone who attended the festival and all who helped out in any way. Special thanks must be given to Michael O'Donnell from Island Seafoods, who played a major role in the festival organisation.
Special thanks must also be given to Molloy Fish who sponsored the lovely fish which everyone enjoyed all day long and was prepared by our very own John Shine from Shine’s Irish Albacore Tuna. Thank you to the LYIT and all the staff who hosted the event for the second year running. We are very lucky to have this facility in our town.
Also, a huge thanks to all other council members who helped out on the preparation for the event. Without community involvement, these events could not take place, so thank you. Roll on next year!"
