Killybegs Tidy Town Marks 2018

We're delighted with our marks again this year - a big increase of 9 marks from 2017. For past few years, we had second highest increase in the County, this year we had to settle with third highest increase out of 41 towns. We have been entering just 13 years and others up to 60 years and marks accumulate over the years eg the main winner this year has competed for 60 years and this is a first time winning. We'll get there eventually. Well done to everyone who has helped for past year and down the years and hopefully all will be on board again for next year. There's so much to Tidy Towns besides litter free town eg, 1 Built environment and Streetscape, 2 landscaping and open spaces, 3 Wildlife, habitats and natural amenities 4 Sustainable waste and resource management 5 tidiness and litter control 6 Residential streets and housing 7 Approach roads, streets and lanes. Our biggest recommendation for 2018/19 is prevention of waste. Perhaps we should all get on board to do our bit for prevention eg buying goods with least packaging could be a starting point. Go raibh maith agaibh uilig.
