Minutes of Killybegs Community Council Meeting – 9th Jan 2019

Special Announcements

The Council shared their condolences with the Mallon family on the passing of Mrs Moira Mallon.  Moira and her daughter Patricia have been members of the Council and have put in many years of hard work for the Community in Killybegs.  May she rest in peace.


It was announced that Clr John Campbell has left his position at Donegal County Council.  John offered the Community great assistance and advice over the years he was a Councillor, we wish him every success for the future.



Treasurers Report

Church Gate collection raised €838.62 for the Christmas Lights Fund



·       Town and Village Renewal Scheme Funding - No update. 


·       Playground Group Report – No update. 


·       Fintra Bridge – No update


·       Courtesy crossings – On DCC to do list..


·       Hooked 2019 – Planning has started.  Some committee members are meeting with Ciaran O’Hanrahan, the new head of LYIT on Wednesday 16th of January.  This will be followed by an organisers group meeting on Thursday 17th of January.  There are funding applications to be actioned by 25th of January. 


·       EPA and DCC - An Article in Donegal News from 31st of December last was brought to the Councils attention by a member of the Community.  It concerns the disused town landfill dump at Bilbane.  The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) have concerns about the ground flow water being contaminated by the landfill which is then feeding into two local Rivers.  Clr Kennedy will find out more and report back at the next meeting.


·       Darkness into Light – It was suggested we could organise a walk in Killybegs, this was discussed and it was agreed to put it on Facebook to see if any individuals or group are interested in organising it.


·       Foroige Group – The young Peoples group are taking part in Operation Transformation, they have arranged a Walk and Talk group with a focus on exercise and Mental Health.  This takes place at 4.30pm every Monday leaving from the Niall Mor Community Centre.


·       Cruise Ships – There will be 11 Cruise Ships in 2019 over 9 days.  One will stay overnight on the June Bank Holiday weekend.  The Council are looking for ideas for how to entertain all these welcome Guests!.. All suggestions are welcome.


·       Facebook – Dog Dirt ~ It was agreed to put a post on Facebook about Dog fouling to remind owners to pick up after their Dogs.
