Minutes of Killybegs Community Council Meeting – 13th Feb 2019

The Meeting commenced with a presentation from PEL Solar Street Bins outlining the benefits of having Solar Compacting Bins in the town.  The possibility of funding for some of these Bins for Killybegs is being investigated.  www.pelmfg.com, www.solarstreetbin.com


Town and Village Renewal Scheme

Two premises have been identified by TVL Group as potential locations for opening a Fish Shop, leases have to be secured.  No funds have been drawn down as yet.


Playpark Group Report

Three interactive Play Panels have been ordered by the playgroup committee at a cost of €2045.  This will come from ringfenced funding for the Playpark and €1000 from the Community Enhancement program.  There is some painting to be done and a few other jobs relating to lights and ground surface were discussed.


Fintra Bridge

Landowners have been contacted, some delays have been encountered, still moving towards Public Consultation.


Hooked 2019

Planning continues.  There is a meeting with Joy Harron and Barney McLoughlin of DCC on 20th of February.  The Festival date has been moved to 7th of September to coincide with LYIT 50th year anniversary.  Funding and grant applications are being completed and submitted.



The Clean Up at Bilbane dump is gone out to tender, further news will follow when it becomes available.


Foroige Group

The young Peoples group walk and talk every Monday is going strong.  Anyone can join and the focus is on exercise and Mental Health.  This takes place at 4.30pm every Monday leaving from the Niall Mor Community Centre.


Carpet Factory

The Council have been advised the Carpet Factory complex has been purchased.  The group who run the Maritime Centre are in rental negotiations with the new owners.


Tidy Towns

A town clean up has been arranged for Sunday March 3rd at 2pm, meeting at the Traders Car Park.  Pickers, Gloves and High-Vis will be provided.   Please try and give an hour of your time to this worthwhile event.

Clean Up Week is from 25th to 29th of March, meeting each evening at the Traders Car Park at 6pm.  Please come and help!
