Mayor Ann Marie says Thanks.

Mayor Ann Marie says Thanks.

I want to thank everyone for supporting me in my successful bid to become Mayor of Killybegs.  I am extremely honoured and proud to have been elected Mayor of our lovely town.

It has been a busy few weeks, since I was asked to put my name forward for the contest, but it has been a wonderful experience. I held various fund-raising events, being mindful to cover all age-groups. My chosen charity for my campaign was the Foresters Hall Development Fund.  The total amount I raised over six weeks was €6715 and 50% of this went to the Festival Committee.  I am extremely grateful to all who came out and supported the various events, and gave donations.

Organising and holding events can take a bit of time and effort and a lot of help.  I was blessed with having a great team of helpers.  Colin Mabon helped with managing the money, and he also looked after the social media advertising and posters.  Mark Nesbit and Alan Herron have been amazing to me with all my event planning, nothing was ever a problem, and they had the knack of knowing where to get whatever was needed, they were full of enthusiasm and kept me going.

Jackie Blaine, Marzena Dudek, Gillian McCracken Mabon, Stella Watkins, Elle Herron, Jonathan Kennedy, Noel McGinley, Niamh Kennedy, Kevin and Bernie McCann, Pauline Ratcliffe, Mairead Byrne, Alana Keeney, Evelyn Harvey Cassidy, Roger & Fionnuala Gernon, Sharon Morrow, Maedb McGuinness, Lucy Blaine, Patricia Murrin, Foresters Members; Kathleen and Conal McGuinness, Gillan McGuinness, Marian McGuinness, Frank Gallagher, all who have helped out at various events.

For my Fun Day on the Shore Road, I would like to thank the following musicians: Denny Coleman, Mary Gillespie, Aaron Gillespie and Fred Smith, Kevin O’Donnell School of Music, Aoife Feeney School of Music, singers, Ciara Boyle, Sorcha and Ailbhe McGowan, My Bear and elephant - Megan Cunningham, Amber Mooney and Ava O’Connell.

I want to thank the following who helped me in various ways to put events together:  Warren Mooney and Barry O’Hara from Mooney Boats, Michael O’Donnell and Martin Boyle from Island Seafoods. Shane Shovelin, DJ Big D, Luke McCarthy, Charleen Gallagher Byrne and Molly Keeney from Killybegs Beauty by Charleen, Rory Gallagher and staff of Supervalu and Ahoy Cafe. Pat Byrne did the point 10k and raised sponsorship for my campaign.

Ultan Pringle and Big Fish Drama Group for holding an interval raffle for me during their recent performance of ‘Chicken Nuggets’ at the Foresters.

Grateful thanks for all sponsorship from local businesses, especially Gallagher Bros, Barry Electronics, Gallagher Marine, Seaquest Systems, and Swan Net Gundry.

Thank you to Hugh O’Donnell and the Festival committee for asking me to go forward.  I wish my fellow candidate, Jordan Boyle, the very best of luck in the future.  It is not an easy thing to put ourselves out there, so well done Jordan.

I wish to thank the out-going Mayor, Conal Breslin, for his contribution over the past two years and wish  him well for the future.

To my own family and extended, I appreciate and value all of your support.

I look forward to carrying out my duties whenever or wherever I am requested to attend.
